Great design comes from appropriate restrictions. We can’t just go off willy-nilly designing frivolous trite, full of decorative representations of a by-gone era. No, indeed. We’re not completely uncivilized.
Modern Design needs rules.

About Jody Brown
Jody Brown is just an architect, standing in front of an ideology, asking it to love him.
lol, and then it needs a decorator to come along and finish it off and give it character and warmth. And a place for people to sit.

I think I have to disagree with “No Color” and “No Furniture”.

Methinks certain people are taking this too literally… lol. When you add this stuff in, you have Post-Modernism = BLECH! You can always stand, and white walls make a great backdrop for Modern art (I’m thinking Pollock). However, if you insist on furnishing your Modern space, black leather, stainless steel, and bent, blonde-colored birch plywood are acceptable. Who needs anything else?

Blech indeed. Postmodernism has always been too gnome-centric

Me too. You can have a barcelona chair or 2, and maybe paint the entry door “charcoal”

Frankly, if I see another glass, funky angled box on the cover of Architectural Digest (which they keep sending me even though I have stated I don’t want the magazine), I’m going to poke my eye out with a protractor. I’m ready for the next style beyond modern. Yes, modern will not be the last architectural style in our history. When will we move beyond it? It has not all been done before (like a former unimaginative teacher of mine once told our class). Add the gnomes back in! The next architectural style?Gnomitechture! More humor in architecture is greatly appreciated. Thanks Jody.
